Capacity is the whole spec
A lift is rated for a weight, and the weight that matters is the boat wet and loaded — fuel, water, gear and an engine, not the dry number on the brochure.
The dock has to carry it
A lift puts its load into the pilings. Adding one to a dock built without it often means new pilings first, which is why this is quoted as an installed unit rather than by the foot.
